Turning it off and on again
A little background, I started my own website many years ago. I started it not with the intention to get a ton of views but rather to learn and practice skills from various web technologies to becoming a better writer. Like most people though, when you start a new project, the motivation is extremely high and a lot of times is at its peak. Then life happens, motivations and priorities change and that is what often happens with my side projects. I know, I know, lack of discipline or time management. I don't see it that way most of the time though but rather I like to follow my desires and whatever they may be given the time I have available. So, things like a website or taking a course about some new tech or language gets put on pause.
All that said, I obviously haven't forgotten about my goal to write more and do more with my website. I recently brushed off the dust and got excited again. I am honest with myself though and know that at some point I will stray to the next shiny thing that excites me. The big question is will that be 1 month? 1 week? Tomorrow? I know there are some things on the horizon that may pull my attention.
- Vacation the beginning of September
- Cooler weather and enjoying time outdoors
- Sports (Royals pushing for a playoff spot and Chiefs going for a 3-peat!)
New job, new tech
Another reason I fell out the writing bandwagon was in April I started a new role with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas and devoted all my time learning like a sponge. I mean, it was the first career change for me since 2006!
So, I am back the mobile space and learning NativeScript. 😱 It has been a challenge and even though I would have never picked NativeScript to start writing a mobile app, I try to always keep an open mind and do see the appeal. I am looking forward to the native work I will be taking on in the near future.
All that said, I'm back baby! I do have plenty of ideas of topics I want to post about and different things I want to try with this site. Until then, I will leave you with a photo of my pups Buddy and Bella playing.
